I paid (dearly) for a copy of this book on Amazon and it was worth every penny. Just wonderful to read. Highly recommended.

The copy I read was checked out from the Seattle Public Library. Free! up.gif

"I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach. I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each."

Absolutely nothing wrong with free! To what extent do you think the North Skokomish Trail parallels the one O'Neil built? The end of the book suggests that the trail eventually was abandoned and overgrown. It was cool to think that to some extent I've walked where O'Neil did. To read about his earlier expedition in the Elwha area was cool also, considering that I can now penetrate the inner Olys on FR 2880. Pictures of Olympus in the book are also motivating.

The North Fork Skokomish will take a lot more meaning on when I hike it next.
