Nuclear war is orders of magnitude more dangerous than global warming. Its not even close.

Not sure if the post about nuclear war was serious or in jest, but before considering that as an option you might want to take a look HERE: https://archive.org/details/threads_201712

As long as we're on another round of riffing on global enviro castastrophe, here's a fascinating item about a relatively recent (early 1800's) but little-remembered episode of global cooling: Year Without a Summer .

^ It's doubtful that the event of 1816 was the only occurrence of a year or two of global cooling due to some cataclysmic volcanic event somewhere - but those should be considered anomalies in the big picture, and not indicators of "global warming" or "global cooling" or "climate change" in the context of this thread. For that matter, nuclear winters are a bit off the rails here, but the discussion in this thread doesn't really seem to remain within any fixed limits.

Big volcanoes are really deadly. Fortunately, "big" in the context of global cooling is quite rare. You need to loft a very large amount of mass a long way up to even dent the system. Even Tambora and its winter of 1816, up against early-industrial age Europeans and pre-industrial humans elsewhere... very weak economies by modern standards... didn't cause a significant dip in most populations.

Sun Ra's "Nuclear War" is a more appropriate musical background for this stock footage.

Yes, but it will solve multiple problems. It will stop global warming for the short term, it will solve the over-population-limited-resources problem which will, in turn, limit long-term global warming. A little short-term pain for long-term good. And we in the US can be comforted to know that our national government will survive even if we don't https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/raven-rock-garrett-graff/1122222405#/.

A friend of mine's take on Global Warming... "The slight increases over centuries in 1/10th of a degree average global temperatures readings are true - but ONLY for cherry picked periods of time! over the long haul they trend up then they trend down, then they trend up, it's more of a wave pattern if you look at the full history. when they started the global warming panic, it was based on an arbitrary period of time with a distinct trending up pattern, specifically chosen to con everyone. remember these same jokers told us a couple of times that all the polar bears would be dead and the ice caps totally gone long before today. they haven't been right yet. but the actual science part of temp variations rising and falling are correct the fake part is where they extrapolate that data to pretend that recent cherry picked upward periods are the result of "human" abuse of the environment - which scientists argue about and is not proven. similar rising periods took place before we were out of our caves, so who's fault were those? were the evil dinosaurs all driving SUV's? the faker part is where they pretend the humans residing in the US specifically, are a significant "chunk" of that alleged abuse. at this point, no I'm sorry it's the 2nd and 3rd world generating the great majority of the problem. anything we do will have zero to negligible impact depending on the context. including the brain dead plastic straw ban my lefty friends in Seattle supported. no straws sold in Seattle today, are ending up in the ocean. zero. Unless some guy with a yacht goes out and intentionally throws his overboard. the big pile of plastic/garbage in the ocean is real, but again it's countries like China and N Korea contributing to it. Not us. and the icing on the fake cake, or fakiest of all parts of that, is the implication that by voting for any moron with a [D] by their name you will avoid climate catastrophe and horrific death... typical team [D] sales tactic. same reason they want the 'gubment to have full control of health care. so they can claim team [R] wants to kill you and take it away, and scare a bunch of useful idiots into voting for them. the force has a powerful effect on the weak minded.

I invite you to stroll on over to the "Saloon" and check out the video link I posted on pg 97, the Nova program on Antarctica. If any talk of climate change makes you gag, start viewing at around 6.57; that's where the really interesting science starts. The "wave pattern" you mention has indeed been proven scientifically. The program tells about the scientists who are doing very deep core sample drilling which enables them to document the climate history of Antarctica by both gases trapped in the ice sections, and the plant/animal life evident in the soil/rock sections. The takeaway: our current climate trend has us heading toward the same climate as the Pliocene era (5-2.5 million years BP). Regardless of what the cause of this particular swing is, we're definitely screwed by the end of this century.

The quote posted by Chief Joseph is a good example of pure "denial," with no knowledge of the science but a general sense of global warming being associated with straw bans and socialism and leftist political views.

Prior to Anthropogenic Global Warming Theory, there was a universal consensus that we were trending towards the next Ice Age. The most widely accepted understanding of glacial cycles shows that insolation has already decreased to the point where the continental glaciers can advance, we are not quite sure why it hasn't started already. And so now maybe it won't. But folks should realize that claiming that we prevented the next Ice Age by releasing CO2 is an extraordinary claim that requires extraordinary proof, and climate model projections do not qualify as extraordinary proof. A Pliocene climate is very much preferable to another Ice Age. Just sayin. frown.gif
