Curious if anyone has tried them. Hiking boots, running shoes, etc. https://icebug.com

I had a pair of running shoes. They work great on ice. Everywhere else they were less than great. They offer not help at all in snow or slush and are noisy and not any help on pavement. I came to prefer just good grippy running shoes instead of them. And whatever you do, DON"T EVER wear them on a wood floor. If I was going to run on ice ... well not even then because they aren't perfect and can suddenly give way and slip., especially if you have a heel strike. Rumi

Had a pair for winter running when I lived in a snowy climate. As previous poster mentioned, work great on the ice but no difference in soft snow or slush over a good trail running shoe.

Picked up a pair years ago from REI garage sale. Used in Nordic countries for ice running. Work great on ice I.e. frozen canals, ice rinks and driveways. Better than yaktrex or micro spikes on ice. Turn into tennis shoes on snow. Fastest time on Cableline was these when it was frozen solid.

I'll post when they get a good workout. So far (one wearing)...probably spikes for hiking, but okay for icy parking lots when moving from car seat to rear of car to get "saddled up."

Backpacking: limited to one pack at a time. Cameras: limited to as many as I can carry.

Probably suboptimal on bare rock. Also be sure to remove shoes when enter a house.

The lightest running shoes I looked at were a couple ounces lighter than 11 oz. microspikes. I suppose if you could throw them in a bag they could come in handy.

Put 8 local miles in today and they worked as well as traction devices on my boots. I crossed icy roads, tromped through soft nice, and "crunched" my way along sidewalks (clear, compact snow, and ice).

These have worked splendidly for me....Muir snowfield, where I had better traction than snowshoers or booters ( esp going up Panorama point) and the Inter Glacier. https://www.inov-8.com/us/arctic-claw-300-mens-womens-running-shoe-grey

You can buy rubber caulk boots. When the caulks wear out, you can replace them just like golf shoes. White's boots and others make winter pack boots with removable liners. Saw shops have other varieties. I do not recommend the orange ones as they have Kevlar in them and are very heavy. Spikes wear out quickly when they are worn on pavement, and they are very slippery on pavement and rocks.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities
