"We fear what we don't know, and we really hate what we fear. To know the bear, to know the unknown, make a friend of that kind of fear, it does expand a tolerance towards all kinds of beings."
This is only 11 minutes or so and a truly beautiful film. Give it a viewing ... and tell me what you think if you care to.

Thanks for posting this.
Peacocks book, Grizzly Years : in search of the American Wilderness is one that I return to every few years.
Glad to see his efforts of many years of filming getting out to the public.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference.

Thanks for posting this wonderful short film, Rumi. I'd read about Peacock some time ago in connection with Abbey, but had forgotten about him. His book is going on my short list now.
If you've survived a Green Beret tour of Vietnam, I guess one can venture into griz country with a certain relative aplomb. I was always terrified of running into griz in the back country when I lived in Canada.
Best part, the film's inspirational reminders: "When you're down, when you're depressed, get outside...If it's grim, find something, a piece of beauty. You can find that every day in the woods, through the desert, down the canyon...It's the best cure I know for the metaphysical icky-poohs...Arm yourself with friendship, and love the earth. You gotta live consciously, every day."

Thanks for posting. Monkey Wrench Gang is one of my all time favourite books.
The woods and mountains have saved my life over and over again.
Live consciously each day~

Here's a short about Ben Moon (producer of Grizzly Country) and his dog.

Doug Peacock is still very active in NW Montana, advocating for bears and wilderness.
Though he does not mention the specific lookout he worked in in Glacier NP, another lookout observer told me it was Scalplock. (I had thought from the terrain descriptions it might have been Huckleberry.)
The book is amazing, a one-of-a-kind thing.

Thank you! Sometimes you stumble on just what you need to see, just when you need to see it. I just did.
