|Friday evening the NPS announced they would be opening the road to Paradise on Saturday. The snow forecast looked poor but the weather looked great and we really just wanted to get some miles in.
The road was in great condition with just a bit of frost. The parking lot at Narada falls was a skating rink though. We took the long way through the icy forest to Reflection lake.
From there went up towards Mazama ridge. We didn't see many people and snowshoes were definitely the popular mode of transportation for the day. The snow got softer and fresher so we went to just above ye olde Paradise ice caves. From there we go all the way back to the road before putting the skins back on.
From Paradise we met some volunteers putting in the trail from Paradise to Narada falls. After some tedious ice trail skiing we got back to our car for a nice 10 mile loop. Overall it was decent skiing and a great day of exercise. I was really surprised by the lack of crowds.
