Conditions were perfect today for exploring a new trail around the washed out road. Instead of traversing the hill above the river following the flagged proposed road, which is a miserable route, we followed a new path through the snow heading northwest from the road end towards the North Fork Skykomish River. The snow had a solid crust, ideal for our snowshoes.

It wound through a mossy stand of alders and after a mile, we reached the river and increasingly superb views.

Here we found a sunny spot right next to the river, where we had lunch and snapped pictures until clouds moved in and a chill wind began to blow. This is a great little seasonal trail which is good as long as there is several feet of snow covering it.

Is this the east end of the washout?

So the tracks are from someone that drove over Jacks Pass in the recent snow?

I don’t know because they may have been tracks from one of the local resident’s trucks, hard to tell. If you want to know what the current Beckler River Road conditions are, here are some pics from today.

Triciaann on shovel duty not more than two miles up from Highway 2. The Jeep actually began to high center, so we turned around.

I have seen that goat. It is very friendly and will walk up and stick it's head in your window given the chance. Great report NA.
