That could be a phenomenal packrafting trip, assuming there's a way to access the Snake River from the northwestern portion of the trail (near Cpt. John Creek, judging from the description). That would be about 40 miles floating down the lower Salmon/Snake, and probably 40-60 miles hiking. I've always wanted to explore that area. Now I have a (vague) plan!
