I am trying to get a couple days off work to go up the Enchanted Valley. I went too late for all the waterfalls last time, and want to be sure I catch them.

I am thinking of going right before Memorial Day. Does that seem like it would be a good time for the snow to be mostly melted from the valley but have many waterfalls?

Thank you for the info/speculation!

If you futz around on this website long enough I think you can get historical data for the river basin that it drains into -- and make guesses about when the high water will occur.

In a typical year that would be May to early Jun ... definitely avoid Labor Day weekend as it will be crowded.

I was thinking the weekend before memorial day would probably be good.

Sorry I was wrong about the date ... it was May 6, 2006. Lots of bears along the trail from Pyrites Creek and into the valley. Bear cans now required if camping. Again, no real snow in the valley, intermittent snow just beyond, and hit solid at the junction with the O'Neil Pass trail. Brought traction and ice axes because we wanted to get up to Anderson Pass and higher, but the weather was tanking fast so we turned back at the junction.

Excellent, with all this late cold, late may may be just right.

I doubt I will get much past the valley.

It's pretty much normal to date ... just late (though every area has it's own micro climate): https://data.nwac.us/CLISNO/CLISNO.TXT

According to Snotel the southern Olympics have about 3' at 5K' a/o today.

Maybe a ranger will head up that way in Mar or Apr and have a report.
