Yep.

That's exactly what the email I received from recreation.gov stated. In applying this year I noticed that the number of permits that will be issued for the Enchantments Core has changed significantly. In years past they awarded 5 or 6 permits depending on day of the week. This year they are allowing only 24 PERSONS per day in the core which would be half of what was allowed in the past if every winner chose to travel with a group of eight people. My party of one would allow a couple more people to "win" the lottery should I win. I don't know how they will determine how many persons I would put on my permit should I win unless it were that maximum number of persons portion of the lottery app. I'm not holding out for success however and have alternative plans to return to the Eagle Cap, Sawtooth, and Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness areas.

The norm these days, of course. I was honestly surprised my peripheral zone entries didn't make the cut given the statistics from prior years. Luckily we still have a plethora of alternatives.

My wife and I have now each entered the lottery every year since 2011. We generally choose mid week, close the shoulder season and avoid the Core Zone to improve our chances. We have never won. I don't understand how some people win year after year. It seems rigged, or that people are cheating some how. It's so frustrating and disappointing. At the very least people should not be eligible to win multiple years in a row when there is such high demand.

Especially when the social media "influencers" continue to win every year...

One of my facebook friends just won for the second year in a row. It seems to defy the statistical odds. Good for him, but based on the demand it does seem like winning the lottery should eliminate you from consideration for some period of time in subsequent years. I dated a woman who won 2 consecutive years. That was around a decade ago though so I think the system has been revamped and demand has skyrocketed since then.

Just out of curiosity what is a a social media influencer and how could they “influence” what I assume is a computer choosing whose in and who’s out?

They're the ones with 20k+ followers on the 'gram, the new "who's who" of the outdoor community. Makin' that internet cash off the butt-in-yoga-pants pics!

I've got 9 followers on strava, and some of them aren't even family members. Does that count?

I think I met one of those last year at an undisclosed location. So, how do they manipulate a computer to get them permits? Are they like Lori Loughlin who throws millions to cheat her daughter into USC?

Surely this was the reason for the delay: how do we have a random lottery that still weighs chances by Instagram followers? Influencers or otherwise I'm enjoying all the "I got mine! SO EXCITED! May 17 I have a date with Lake Perfection! ... will I need an ice axe? #optoutside"

Just day-trip it and then do an "emergency bivy" or two.
