Maybe they were worried about historic preservation rules?
If they demolished it and found out later it was protected, someone will have a lot of paperwork to do.

Reading the article(s) it seems the trove was actually found in the guy's home. Still pretty creepy regardless.

What is most amazing is that despite the amount of people recreating all over the middle fork, this remained unknown to nearly all. Hard to believe in this era of everything being documented online somewhere and gps tracks to anywhere readily available.

Yeah it blows my mind, I feel like all of us are all over that valley and it was still just rumors. Of course, part of me can totally believe it since I've been going to "my" rocky beach and swimming hole on the middle fork for years and the only strangers I've encountered have been one fisherperson on foot and boats floating by. You can hear/see the road and don't have to ford anything and it's still...well, mine. Go figure.

The Middle Fork valley and its tributaries is an enormous place. I've been doing a lot of off trail romping to find ancient forest remnants and I'm sure that some of these areas are seldom or perhaps never visited.
The only reason that I stumbled on this Gingerbread porn house is because it is near an exceptional ancient grove. If he would have put it off in some random uninteresting 2nd growth grove it probably would have never been found.

Trove makes it sound like a hidden treasure. Couldn't they use a better title, like dirty filth pile?

I hope they tear it down asap, it has no place in such a beautiful wild area. It can only come to trouble.

Figuring that that the creepy treehouse is not long for this world, I decided to look for it today. I almost gave up the search after thrashing around in the rainy, drippy woods, but finally found the place. Amazing how untouched its interior was - it looked it was abandoned yesterday. Books were still on the shelf, the small bed was fitted with blankets and looked quite comfortable, and the multitude of pictures of gnomes and googie-eyed fairies in various states of undress stared at me from the walls. Creepy, indeed!
I was amazed at the craftmanship that went into making the cabin, and the effort spent on its construction. Its interior was completely dry and clean even after going through a long, hard winter. Mother Nature will eventually destroy it, but she may take awhile...if the DNR doesn't do the job first.
A fun adventure finding the cabin, all in all. Now I need to see a priest in the event I acquired a case of accidental demonic possession.
