A fun adventure finding the cabin, all in all. Now I need to see a priest in the event I acquired a case of accidental demonic possession.
Creepy indeed. But I don't think you need to see a priest (for that anyway)

i could be incorrect and don't want to get in trouble if I am.. or cast aspersions on the wrong person. But it appears the person in connection with this who plead guilty for the child pornography had a wood working business, which would explain the craftsmanship.

I guess this is the end of the story: Man sentenced to 9 months Kind of surprising that the FS hasn't blown it up or otherwise dismantled it yet. The Latin (?) carvings on the deck slats are most weird.

Hopefully the end of the story but sadly the statistics aren't so promising.

The inside of that treehouse has no all over it. I wouldn't have crossed the threshold down.gif It needs to be burnt.

Curiosity is a strong motivator. I was by myself when I first discovered it and didn't go in. Came back a week later with my teenage son and his friends. It was a great adventure. If it was a scene in a horror movie, the entire audience would have been screaming "don't go in there you f**king idiots".

Turns out the creepy gingerbread house hasn't been removed: WTA trip report
The WTA post has been expunged, the dangerous tree fort has not. The criminal responsible for its construction has not been held accountable for its removal and restoration of our public lands (kudos *ahem* to the justice system???). I call it a 'fort' because that's what it is. Its location was selected to make it hard to find. Its construction includes features that make it hard to breach even by a SWAT team - especially in an abduction/hostage situation. But if you don't know about it, it can't hurt you. See how effective censorship is?

Good god, people stay away from that structure. Keeping yourself away from potentially dangerous situations just seems like basic prudence to me. No telling when the guy or friends of his are going to return and find you creeping around. Sure it's public land, but why risk harm to yourself? There are plenty of other places to go. This guy isn't right in the head. And why exploit the victims more than they already have been? Crowing "I've been there!", while is certainly someone's right to do so, is kinda creepy in itself. It's as tasteless as highlighting the Northwest Hospital or Wellington as a spooky Halloween hike.

Kim, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you don't like horror movies

Meh. As ThursdayHiker mentioned upthread, it's more about curiosity. It's fairly common to be curious about death and crime. It's not creepy unless there is pleasure derived from it. I'm surprised that the structure hasn't been destroyed yet - either by officials or vigilantes.

In addition to avoiding the hazardous structure, I would also recommend avoiding the Upper CCC, and Pratt River Bar Trails altogether until this thing is gone - especially if you are hiking alone, and/or hiking with children. I'm not an LEO, but I've taken (and passed) a week long professional self-defense training course, which included 'clearing' threats from trails, and structures. This was very basic/introductory threat clearing. For comparison, 'threat' mitigation training needed to prep for qualification as a licensed guard or investigator in WA is only about 2 days (for non former LEOs). The class was taught by active and retired LEOs, who also had military experience. There were both military AND civilian LEO students in the class, including one SWAT officer (I'm not sharing this to brag, but to advocate increased training budgets for our LEOs). These skills are highly perishable, so I set out to find the place for some 'practice'. No noise was made during my visit as that is not the point of this type of practice.

9 months of work release seems quite lenient to me? I thought I read in the original Seattle Times (I think) article that in the digital images found on his electronic devices were images taken of underage girls in the cabin. That points to a far more serious crime than possession of child pornography.
