The lure of the Dosewallips brought me back once again to walk along its banks. I am not sure what keeps bringing me back to the Dosewallips. It might be the azure blue water in the river, fewer people since the road has been washed out for so long, or perhaps the varied places to visit the farther in you hike. Places like Del Monte Ridge and Constance Pass smack in the middle of the towering rocks that are Inner Constance, Warrior, Mt. Mystery and Mt. Deception. Or perhaps the flower strewn meadows farther up the Dosewallips beginning just beyond the trail junction with the Greywolf Trail and going all the way to Hayden Pass. Or perhaps it is the area once covered by the former Anderson Glacier.
It was a grand day to be out walking along the Dosewallips. The sun was out in full glory, until some clouds moved in later in the day. The sun shown through the trees at random spots to alight upon moss covered branches, making them glow a golden color. The azure blue water in the river tumbled merrily around the moss covered rocks in the river with a sound that soothed my soul. I was in no hurry to walk and found many opportunities to stop and setup tripod and camera to capture what caught my eye. When I reached the old Forest Service campground, Elkhorn, I found a spot in the sun to warm my self and munch my lunch. When I was done munching, I began a leisurely walk back to my car.

Thanks for the report and pictures.
I missed you by a day. I hiked to the old campground at the end of the road on Tuesday. It was the first time I took the low route around the washout that goes down near the river. I like it better than going up and around. Someone has placed a rope at the upper end where it is a little bit steep.
There were not many people out. I hiked all day with 2 brothers visiting from China I met at the trailhead and that was interesting. On our way out we saw a couple of backpackers up near the falls and then down near the main washout we saw a group of kids that said they were going to be out for 7 days.
I used to wish that they would open the road back up and still do but now I would just like them to fix the washout before the main washout.

Reststep: I too walked along the river at the washout instead of going up and around like I usually do. I think I’ll keep doing it that way instead of going up and around. I didn’t see many people either, just an older couple hiking in as I was hiking back to my car.
I doubt the washout before the big washout will get fixed. I think this will be the third year that has been blocked off. I heard some where that the FS was tired of spending money every year to fix the washout just to keep one mile of road open.
