Haha - not that kind of input. Seriously. We are a non-profit organization, the Washington Hi-Lakers, that is working with the Forest Service on improving water and overall environmental quality in the backcountry. To that end, we are volunteering to assemble and install new privies. As a pilot, we need your suggestions on where a new privy should be located. Ideally this would be somewhere that:
  • receives a fair amount of hiker traffic
  • near a body of water
  • doesn't already have a privy
  • is in the Skykomish Ranger district
We would like to hear your suggestions. If the program goes well, we would expand to other areas in the Cascades and Olympics. ~Slim Washington Hi-Lakers

Sorry to hear that you're limited to the Skykomish Ranger district, since one place that's been over-run (especially since last year) and desperately needs it, is the Vesper Peak approach. Although I suppose Lake Elan isn't exactly a lake (more like a tarn) and isn't stocked. But on the other hand, it feeds into the Spada Lake drainage, which, I believe, is in or just near the Skykomish Ranger district. smile.gif

I didn’t see one at Thunder Mountain Lakes. I also don’t remember seeing one at Deception Lakes, although I may have just missed it. Is there one at at Lake Janus, don’t remember seeing one. One of my favorite trailheads, Tunnel Creek, desperately needs one. Thanks for your efforts! up.gif

We will take all suggestions. It's just that we're doing the pilot with the Skykomish Ranger station so that is our preference for the first go-round. Thank you both for your input. ~Slim

Absolutely agree about the small lake there below Vesper Peak. Could probably use two.

Not that we know of. This would be another thing to work on. We would need to crowd source this info.

Double check. I've seen a Hole-y Book of Toilets at Skykomish's office.

What about Blanca Lake, does it have one yet? I haven't been there in 4 or more years just because it has been overrun by hikers and with toilet paper and S$#T all over. MLH

I"m forgetting whether there's one at Glacier Lake (above Surprise) or not. If not, it would be a good spot for one...
