Has anyone here ever found a good fine mist spray bottle for keeping cool? I looked on the web, but I don't see any that seem right for backpacking. Not looking for one of those personal "misting systems" ($100+). Thanks. Mac

These cooling towels actually work. They make all kinds of headwraps and other styles too https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BGHAHTU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I found lightweight plastic spray bottles in different sizes/configurations at my local Bartell's Drug Store in the section where they have all the tiny size toiletries for airline carry-on bags. Doesnt get lighter or cheaper than that!

IME misters are nice in low humidity environments. They work on a similar principal as a swamp cooler. They use a bunch more water than drinking and sweating, but for someone that hasn't heat adapted yet (which takes a couple weeks) they are comforting. For hiking in sunny weather, I would personally bring for a reflective umbrella before a misting bottle. I'm an early morning hiker. So, by the time it's starting to heat up, patches of snow become available. I stash a good fist-size wad of snow into a sandwich-sized Ziplock. After flattening it a bit, I pack it inside a tall, broad-brimmed straw hat. The human scalp is superb heat exchanger. Since I'm not consuming the snow, the patches I scoop from can be tiny and debris laden. For most of the summer, as far as my body is concerned, I'm doing sunny, fall hikes. The downside: I find it a little too easy to delay sunscreen reapplication when I'm trucking along in relative thermal comfort. I have not, however, found a way to ease those hot afternoon exits along low elevation trails. I refuse to haul a supply of snow down the mountain with me. On the way out, when it's gone, it's gone.
