Headed out for an afternoon trip to see the wildflower show. The climb to the divide is only a mile but it is very steep. Enjoyed the company of endless balsamroot and occasional lupine the whole way. Spent an hour up top in a field of yellow, watching storms brew over the Enchantments. Windy day. Didn't see a soul the whole time

Did you drive up Nahahum until you reached public land and then head up?

Spectacular! Can anyone identify this flowering tree/bush? I saw some recently and thought it was dogwood but am not certain.

Amelanchier alnifolia, Western Serviceberry. A good way to ID it (because the white-flowering shrubs are confusing) is that the outer half of the leaf edge is serrated, but the half closest to the stem is much less so.

Yep. After encountering no trespassing signs on mountain home road a couple weeks ago, I made sure that I was on FS land this time.

Looks lovely. I haven't gone balsamroot chasing yet, appears now is the time to do it.

Beautiful photos! And much closer than Lyle, WA. Thanks for posting!
Also, how were the ticks? Thinking of bringing my dogs...

Just want to say that ticks are out! Discovered several on my dog and this is in spite of her being treated with Simparica.

Doggies and I went yesterday and had a great time! No ticks to be found on any of us... but of course that doesn't say anything about later in the season or in different areas.
fourteen410, thanks for such a great recommendation.
