509 roughly also delineates the proposed new state of Liberty where pesky 206'ers don't get in the way of the good stuff. https://libertystate.org

I've noticed the 206-type crowd here is frequently unable to resist sneaking their political bumper stickers onto the most benign pages. Same as it ever was.
Please go into more detail. Fact: Political beliefs aside, and you have no idea what my leanings are, there are such groups on the boundary/border with Mexico doing manly things and causing a bit of mayhem. Maybe a bit political if you express an opinion on whether that is good or not. I did not express such an opinion other than mentioning manly men which may or may not be construed as opinion. From my reading about such groups, they seem to want to be manly men and shoot their weapons that must not be mentioned. Fact: Cars are getting broken into. Anything political about that? Fact: Volunteering is being discussed. Politics here? Fact: The Manly Men are volunteers. A politically benign statement. Getting them to patrol trailheads might be doing folks a favor in both areas. Now think reeeeeel hard about that statement and don't get all worked up about political theories that are not intended. Gotta love you and yours trying to mind read on the internet. Why not start a business doing it? I think you might go broke.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

lol.gif Ah, I should have guessed. Thanks. I only call 360 to visit with kids/grandkids.

Kind of a scaled back version of the proposed state of Lincoln first proposed in 1901 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_(proposed_Northwestern_state) I'll wager that if the Liberty state proposal is ever successful that after the 1st congressional and legislative elections in the new state there will be complaints about liberal Spokane being too dominating in political influence.

Certainly nothing to do with the political situation at the "southern boundary" as you called it. In any event, I come here for the hiking and related info--not for moralizing from liberals. (Or conservatives.)

Ok, I'll bite, what is a 206 or a 509? Sounds like police shorthand for something or other.
206 and 509 are area codes for Seattle proper and Washington east of the crest. It's a reference to the contrast between high earning urban dwellers that flock to rural areas to play and rural folks that try to scratch out a living in rural areas.

Imagine the complaining if 206 starts relocating their homeless population to 509.

They already do. As Seattle goes, so goes the state. And that's the problem. Now I'm in danger of getting sucked in, so I'll say no more except this: I applaud anyone of good moral character who wants to patrol trailheads and deal with the theft/vandalism problem in an appropriate manner.

The pocket-size info hut at Wallace Falls is a nice little watchdog for the adjacent parking lot. Of course it’s not always staffed and is itself a break-in target, I ‘spose ... but I’ve always wondered why similar little huts staffed by volunteers couldn’t be peppered around on the more trafficked trails infamous for car prowling incidents.

Meanwhile in 206 http://www.myballard.com/2018/01/30/27-car-prowls-reported-over-the-last-week/ Maybe a car parked at a lonely trailhead is better off than one parked in the city...
