Never knew there was a lookout site in that area!

Ground sleeping room. Did the Army think towers were just too cold to sleep in in the winter? Are should be stayed off of during big snow storms? Did they assign one person to each station or two? Best.

Thanks. As soon as you say listen, then spot, it makes sense. Even one of those plane flying over is still loud enough to make you wonder ‘what is that’ and step outside to see. Best. PS. Crislers photo on a fine day still look cold. On long dark windy nights I doubt it was so pleasant.

Yes, at least for the trip reports I have. I do have a strong desire to do Oakes in the winter on a seller day since it has such great views. If anyone cuts a path up though the snow, please post so the rest of us can follow.
Thanks

The tower legs stood until maybe just 10 to 15 years ago.
I visited the site in March of 2000 and I don't recall which remains were present other than foundation blocks and the phone line. I can't remember what position the timbers were in but if some were standing I think I would remember. I wish now I had kept detailed records like you do, Eric. Then I was only interested in just a personal visit but not for history to pass along. I wish I could ' redo.' Edit: As Redwic notes below, the old phone wire was evident. I found the site in 2000 by following the phone line.

Passing rocks and trees like they were standing still

This was a fun outing. As much as I liked finding the various remnants, I had the most fun tracking the estimated path of the downslope telephone line, then finding it and following it until near the road.

Thanks again for the helpful info. We found the start of the trip last summer on our way home from HLLO, but it was such nasty weather that we put it off for another day.
