Somehow managed to get lucky and got a permit for Havasupai this year. I flew down to Phoenix on the 25th, but took the long route through Sedona & Flagstaff as I had never been. Really enjoyed the drive up Oak Creek Canyon.

Got to the Haulupai Hilltop at 10:30 pm after going through a security checkpoint on Indian Rd 18 checking for drugs and alcohol. After a sleepless night in the Nissan Sentra rental I was happy to head into the canyon and start hiking. The trail quickly descend a thousand feet into the canyon then is mostly flat to Supai. The town of Supai still receives all mail via pony express.

After checking in at the tourist office I headed down the last couple miles and found a nice private camp just off Havasu Creek.

Saturday was focused on hiking to the confluence w/ the Colorado. This was a 16 mile day with somewhere around 22 creek crossings. Met some rafters at the confluence who offered me some free beer! This made up for the 6 pack that was previously taken at said checkpoint.

Took the hammock up to Havasu Falls early Sunday and watched the sunrise over the falls.

Awoke early morning to gusty winds and rain. Luckily it was also my day to leave. However, the heavy desert rains followed me 10 miles to the Hilltop, but things only got more bleak. Found a flat tire on the rental, and with no jack or lug wrench to fix it. Thankfully people are amazing and a few people stuck around in the rain to help out.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like the big river had more runoff happening when you got there (i.e. a bit brown) - that's what it looked like when we pushed off from Lee's Ferry ramp last May but by the time we got to Havasu this is what the confluence looked like:
