A friend frorm work and his dog joined me on an overnight to Bandera mt friday. It was a warm starry night. There was a little bit of snow on the south side near the top. The north side is still buried. Great little bench on the north side right off the summit. Can't get pics to upload to Flikr with the iphone ap. sorry. There had to be 100 cars at 10:30 Saturday AM at the Ira Springs trail head.

Was up there Thursday evening, beautiful cool.gif would rather have a root canal than try to park on a sunny weekend. Except for the parking PPP is a great alternative. Never spent the night on top of Bandera but did on Defiance it was great.

I hate the Ira Springs trailhead. I was traumatized trying to get out of there on Memorial Day a few years ago. Over a mile of cars parked on the side of the road making the road only wide enough for one car with people trying to get in and out at the same time. Never say never, but... I never want to go back.

There is of course an alternative to the rough road and scarce weekend parking--if you hike up to the trailhead from exit 42.

I bumped into a friend Saturday AM who was just popping up on the trail. She had done exactly that!

At least not on Memorial Day! A drizzly Wednesday will be less crowded.

Actually I did that one and Snow Lake on Memorial Day weekend a couple of years ago and it was like the Zombie apocalypse, no one around. Like sitting to eat my sandwich and not having a single person go by for 20 minutes on the snow lake trail. We started to get worried. Bandera parking is a circular firing squad for sure. I like making Belevue debutantes have back up the range rover so my beat to crap 4runner could get by.

Since I have no expectations of forgiveness, I don't do it in the first place. That loop hole needs to be closed to everyone.
