There's not a host right now. There was a help wanted sign for one.

This was a few years ago, middle of day, middle of June. We had just arrived and had gotten set up. There was a camp host and rangers in the campground. When I reported it they just shrugged and said it happened all the time.

Good to know it's not necessarily safer in there than at the beach TH parking lots. Sounds like thieves cruise thru looking for unattended stuff and no other observers around. Did they swipe your tent, also? I wasn't totally cavalier when I was there - didn't leave my bag or cooking gear in camp when I went elsewhere.

Kiliki!
I was there over spring break with my young daughter. Same cg, same noises. I sat the first night after she went to bed thinking.....test airstrip? ATV park?
Same confusion.
It is most definitely outboards from netting boats on the river. The clearing near the campground is the river which has wide open areas.
I was so confused for a few days that I took my daughter to the "clearing" and discovered that the river was right there, and boats with small outboards were revving to get up river.

Thanks! I can't believe they were doing this at night.

They've done it thousands of times, they know the river well.

I agree though, it seems weird they need to do it in the dark. Maybe their nets get too full and they need to empty them?
