That is reckless in the extreme. Do not listen to this guy. If you want to do a long-distance trail, you could try the Pacific Northwest Trail. It goes from Montana to the Pacific Ocean. Sections in Idaho, the Kettle Range, and the Pasayten Wilderness should be perfect that time of year. The part in North Cascades National Park and around Mt. Baker will still be very snowy though. And trail conditions are a much bigger issue on the PNT.
