(* didn't see this incident posted anywhere. sorry if this is a duplicate. *) Tuesday, May 28, 2019 15:08 PDT Olympic National Park News Release Search in Progress for Missing Person PORT ANGELES, WA: A search (SAR) began in Olympic National Park on Monday, May 27 after receiving a 911 call at 5:45 pm for a missing person. A 35 year old female was reported missing after entering the water at Lake Crescent with a personal inflatable raft. Park Rangers immediately searched by boat and with the assistance of the U.S. Navy, conducted an aerial search operation looking for any signs of the missing woman. Rangers worked well into the night on the SAR effort and resumed the search by boat at 6:00 am on Tuesday, May 28. The National Park Service enlisted the assistance of the U.S. Coast Guard on Tuesday, May 28 to continue aerial observations. NPS resources are being utilized on the SAR for both water and land searches. Additional resources are being contacted out of Mason County and Kitsap County for assistance. A hasty search found no evidence of the woman in the area of Lake Crescent. We ask anyone who visited the shores of Lake Crescent from Barnes Point to Fairholm on Monday, May 27 between the hours of noon and 6:00 pm and observed the use of a "white unicorn personal inflatable raft" to please call or text Olympic National Park immediately on the Investigative Tip Line (888) 653-0009. Lena Lang, age 35 of Federal Way, was last seen shortly before the 911 call on the waters of Lake Crescent with a personal inflatable raft. Park Rangers began to search by boat and with the assistance of the U.S. Navy, conducted an aerial search operation looking for any signs of the missing woman. Rangers worked well into Monday night resumed the search by boat and air on Tuesday, May 28. The National Park Service enlisted the assistance of the U.S. Coast Guard on Tuesday, May 28 to continue aerial observations. NPS resources are being utilized on the SAR for both water and land searches. Thursday May 30, 2019 14:46 PDT Olympic National Park News Release Search Continues for Missing Woman at Lake Crescent PORT ANGELES, WA: A search (SAR) began in Olympic National Park on Monday, May 27 after receiving a 911 call at 5:45 pm for a missing person. Lena Lang, age 35 of Federal Way, was last seen shortly before the 911 call on the waters of Lake Crescent with a personal inflatable raft. Park Rangers continue to search both by boat and on land. The U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard have conducted aerial search operations. On Wednesday, Olympic National Park used underwater sonar mapping and remote operated vehicles (ROV) to identify the highest probability search areas for the Kitsap County Dive Team. A boat from the Clallam County Sheriffs Office joined the search effort Wednesday. “Divers were able to reach depths of 100 feet,” said acting superintendent Lee Taylor. “We have requested a ROV with special equipment and two operators from Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Friday May 31, 2019 16:17 PDT Olympic National Park News Release Request for Information Related to Missing Woman at Lake Crescent PORT ANGELES, WA: A search (SAR) began in Olympic National Park on Monday, May 27 after receiving a 911 call at 5:45 pm for a missing person. Lena Lang, age 35 of Federal Way, was last seen shortly before the 911 call on the waters of Lake Crescent with a personal inflatable raft. Rangers received a tip that on Monday, May 27th that a woman was seen carrying a deflated unicorn raft out of the woods and drove away in a dark colored SUV between the hours of 5:20 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. from a lakeside pull out near mile marker 226. The woman in question is not the missing woman, Lena Lang. We ask that anyone who may have seen this SUV or woman please call or text Olympic National Park immediately on the Investigative Tip Line (888) 653-0009. This whole thing is sounding a little off tilt, BUT.... My parents tipped over their sailboat in LC when I was a teenager in the 80s (dad and that d**n spinnaker, he just couldn't NOT use it). Thank goodness they'd let us kids go do our own thing that day. I think it was March or something like that, certainly well before people repopulated the vacation cabins out there, and my folks held on to the hull of the boat a long time before help finally arrived. A passing car had spotted them and called 911. Anyone who's stuck a toe in that water will remember quite well how cold it is. Really hope this gal is OK and it's all a hoax. The alternative is much worse.

In a rather candid phone conversation regarding this incident, I was told that in situations where people drown in water that is as cold as in Lake Crescent, their bodies do not bloat up and float to the surface as quickly as they would in warmer water. (Anybody recall the married couple that drove off the highway in their automobile and were at the bottom of the lake for over half a century before they were retrieved from the depths?) It may well be the case that this young lady met a tragic end. I find the speculative comment regarding her occupation to be rather obtuse and in extremely poor taste.

I saw this reported the day after and have been wondering if she was found. Seems with the extent of the search they would of at least found the pool floaty she embarked on. Just kind of weird.

I remember hearing stories of “the lady of the lake” who fell in some time or was a murder victim. Supposedly she moved around for years until the body was found. When found it had turned into a soaplike substance, or so I was told by my parents. You can still google the story as I read it a few years ago.
