So, like, I hate to complain.
But where are the bugs??
It's June. And there just aren't any of those bitey critters out there.
Not like, there should be.
Ideas?
I'm I just crazy that I should even care?
Still. It ain't right.

Every single mosquito previously residing in the Cascades piled into my vehicle at the trail head Monday evening and drove home with me. I can send some over to live with you if you miss them.

I found the mozzies just below Clarno, OR, on the John Day River. Sun goes behind western ridge...hordes of moscas exit wet willow swamp and attack beach...with us on it.

Other side of the pass? We went up smithbrook over rainy pass a week ago. Boulder you spotted last winter was still there, but I got around in a big truck.Log in the road blocking trail head access to snow creek, but only less then 1/8 mile. So many mosquitoes I had to retreat for some skin cover. Ended up changing my off trail plans. Was going to climb jelly bean.
Haven't been a problem at home. . Must be because we let swallows live under our soffits. Been seeing plenty of larvae in the standing water.

I was reading trip reports last night and found plenty of reports that noted bugs. Lake Dorothy and Merritt Lake are a couple I remember.

I found plenty of bugs at Olallie Lake last week. I do hear what you saying about there not being as many, though. Almost two weeks ago I spent a couple of hours in a very swampy area and came out with maybe two bites despite not wearing any insect repellent. We couldn't believe we didn't get eaten alive considering the terrain we were in.

Where did you see a report into Merritt? The closest WTA Merritt trip report was May 27th.

Well. I'm happy to know that they are somewhere.
I live near Index. And they just aren't here, like they should be.
So lucky me: I guess.
Can't help but love the humor and knowledge that the
users of this site have.
Sure beats:WTA. Mountaineers etc.
PS.
Walked the dog (& me) to Bridal Veil falls this AM (20th).
Not a biter anywhere.....

Yeah, we ran into clouds of them on the Pete Lake trail a few weeks ago also.

They must've moved on by Sunday when I hiked through there. I've picked-up more bites in the suburbs than the woods so far this spring
