Would have been pretty easy to catch it I imagine. Do they taste like chicken?

Taste a lot like chicken only better free range organic and all that stuff, could get them with a 9 iron. Only problem, out of season and just a mom defending her babies. tongue.gif

Yeah I wasn't being serious. I enjoy observing critters and letting them be.

This happened to me on Saturday. Hatchery Creek TH. The grouse started attacking the car right when we showed up. It pecked at the tires then jumped on the roof of the car and started pecking the roof. Tried to get out of the car and it immediately tried to attack my head. Tried again with a trekking pole which didn't scare it away, it just attacked the pole, then tried to go for my head again. Threw a can at it and it attacked the can for a bit before attacking the car again. We started driving in circles in the parking lot to see if it would eventually give up, but it just followed the car around. After a couple circles it tried to attack the front tire, jumped right in front of the tire as we were driving and got run over. Overall a very weird experience, I've never encountered an animal as aggressive as this before.

Had to be nest nearby. One chased my buddy who was ahead of me. Coming from behind me his dog charged the bird. Mike yelled Dixie No, even though the dog was on the bird she stood down. Dog really wanted that bird.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference. Robert Frost

I had one take a shot at my head. I heard the whoomp whoomp and stopped to see if I could spot the chicken when it came out of nowhere straight at my head. Duck and cover! In the Olympics there is a spot where they meet for evening drinks, a big flat rock. It's at an off trail place I go frequently. The first time there I saw 5 or 6 hanging out at dusk. Clucking and conversing, suddenly they all launched and flew straight at me. Sounded like a squadron of WW2 bombers going over head. I've been back several times and witnessed the gathering each time at that same exact spot.

Since I have no expectations of forgiveness, I don't do it in the first place. That loop hole needs to be closed to everyone.

Like with most of us, their aggression gets worse after a few drinks.

once had a grouse hen do the broken wing thing just as I came out of the tree line on a ridge the last few yards before hwy 20 on the canyon creek trail. she had about half a dozen yellow chicks running all over the place. here in montana I have never had a grouse or other wild animal attack me and I have been close to moose, elk, deer, skunk, porcupine, rabbit (all kinds), squirrel, chipmunk, pika, rattlesnake, bear(all kinds) and billy goat.

I got some very close photos of grouse with my phone recently. You just have to sweet talk them. Music soothes the savage beast, try singing if they're aggressive. They like KRS-One.

Sometimes a grouse's got to know their limitations...

‘Course, that’s the thing. A grouse doesn’t know when we aren’t a threat. (And sometimes we are). Too bad

When I grow up I wanna play.

True fact: Stephen King wrote the book Cujo about a grouse, but had to change it to a dog because people have not learned to fear the grouse.
