If you happen to live in the Seattle area and have limited time for a nice wilderness experience, this one just might be a good fit. at 0.0 miles... 3825 feet... drive to Olallie Meadow and start hiking south on the PCT where it crosses FS-9070 at 1.8 miles... 4300 feet... leave the PCT and head uphill on an obvious path (aka Silver Peak Trail) at 3.0 miles... 5605 feet... Silver Peak summit at 4.2 miles... 4250 feet... reach the maze of roads in Olallie Meadow at 4.8 miles... 4000 feet... pay attention to a road junction... stay left and don't be tempted to go right at 5.2 miles... 3825 feet... get in your car and drive home Everyone knows how to reach the Silver Peak summit by using a combination of the PCT and the Silver Peak Trail. Most will visit the summit and then trace their steps back to the car, but continuing north from the summit makes for an interesting and fun loop trip. An obvious path leads north and down from the summit area... staying on the west side of Silver's north ridge for approximately a quarter-mile before crossing over to the east side of the ridge and dropping down into a huge boulder basin on the north side of the peak... where we continued on the boulders as if we were heading directly toward Granite Mountain on the other side of I-90... eventually picking up cairns and bits and pieces of path that led us down to the maze of roads in Olallie Meadow... leaving a one mile road walk back to the car. Pay attention to the GPS track that I included when dealing with the maze of roads in Olallie Meadow... we weren't paying attention a few years ago and had to deal with a quarter-mile bushwhack to reach the car... maybe it was less than a quarter-mile, but like most bushwhacks, it seemed like more. We met Diana and Nancy on the summit and offered to show them how to make a loop trip out of their hike. They accepted our offer and were still smiling at the end of the hike.
