Veronika, no fun. A few, but not unusual in Olywa.
Lots of skeeters near Jackpot Lake Sunday. They went after my Spouse by the dozen, and a few got me too. Strangely very little rash or itch from bites.
Best.

Just got back (Jul 3-6) from Scatter Lake up the Twisp River drainage... Just a few and only a few skeeters and no bites... no deet used... Strange... usually this is a peak time... but I am not complaining...
P.S. 3 friendly goats that were urine addicted but didn't bother tents/gear.

Ten days ago near Washington Pass. The bloated mosquitoes where taking so much blood they could barely fly. It was like a horror movie, somebody was light headed enough from the blood loss we had to carry him out.
Ok it wasn't that bad, but a swarm of mosquitoes is nasty and relentless.

Where might the back yard be?

In mid-June, several of us hiked up Rock Mountain from the US 2 side. Going up, in the middle section the mosquitoes were the worst I'd ever seen in Washington state. That record stood until we went down, when the lower two-thirds was unbelievable. Must have gotten into a hatch of some sorts.

On a hike last week I had a Bald-faced Hornet T-Bone me as it buzzed across the trail. The little bugger hit me in the wrist and got its head stuck in my watch band. The cartoonish funny factor had me laughing until it started to pry its head out by sticking its A$$ into my wrist to use as leverage. Of course it made use of its stinger for traction. Laughter can be an effective pain killer

...thought I would selfishly re-awaken this thread as the summer season starts changing. Trying to gauge bug levels for end of summer planning. Here is my nickle report to get it going:
Tinkham, Silver PCT area as of last week: heavy mozzies & flys on Tinkham summit, much less on Silver, little to none on dry areas of PCT.

I noticed none while lounging in a light warm breeze at Mason Lake yesterday afternoon. My dog seemed to think there were a few buzzing her at one point. Bugs were light up around Heather Meadows/Artist Point area on Mon/Tues

In all the places I frequent, or have visited, they do not seem to have been as bad this year.
The worst were in the Beartooths, but they still seemed less prolific than in years past.

Went to deer lake off the PCT by white pass this week, which is normally a bad area, and did not need to apply any spray it was great, no bites either.
