I have fun often during "hikes," though often it's during rest stops when there's some time for "play" etc.. But sometimes yes even during the act of putting one foot in front of the other repeatedly, I have what I think can fairly be called "fun." Along with some of the other fine experiences described above.

For me hiking is a means to get to photogenic spots for sunset or sunrise. And not for Instagram Right now I am Vegas for work. I am not a Vegas person. People who think Vegas is the place probably wouldn't understand my appreciation of hikes and the views they bring. Next week I will be in SE Alaska cleansing myself of Vegas-ness smile.gif This is my laptop screen background which keeps me grounded...

Hiking is fun for me. I liked it since I was a kid.

I have learned that even "epic" and "arduous" hikes and climbs, especially ones that were interspersed with intense and/or difficult moments, ALL become memorable adventures after a shower and a good night's sleep. I have never said "I wish I hadn't gone on that trip", even trips that resulted in injury.

Nature exists with a stark indifference to humans' situation.

Every time I hike I tell myself I'm never hiking again! All this up crap. What in the world possessed me to come up here. Then I get to the top and I'm reminded. It humbles me. Now a good scramble? Count me in on that! Type 1 for sure!

Take risks not to escape life, but to prevent life from escaping I may not have anyone rocking my world right now but, I don't have anyone messing it up either.

I've never experienced that. I've regretted bailing on a hike for weather reasons, but even when I've fought rain and lightning all week, I'm always glad to be out there. Certainly there are some Type-2 moments, but even those are exhilarating.
