Bob and I corresponded about that rock that used to be on Dome. His pic is from '86, he posted one of mine from '93 on his summitpost page, that shows the rock is gone. So it fell off sometime between '86 and '93.

Looks like typical cairn building behavior, and then someone came along, got mad, and kicked it off.

Incidentally, on the picture caption by Bob Bolton that Jake posted, Bob says the precarious boulder was gone by 1986.
How time flies.
EDIT: didn't see rhuzby's preceding post. I'm late to this party.

I added a summary photo at the beginning of original post that summarizes everything in one photo.
Many rocks fall in the Cascades. The rock falling off Dome is particularly interesting since that was such a unique block (Beckey commented on its uniqueness), and also the summit lost some elevation!
I think this is also quite unique, because (in my opinion) this block falling increases the tech difficulty of the standard route up Dorado Needle. I've heard of this happening often on routes at crags, but I've never heard of it for a T100 peak

Sorry, I mis remembered it. He did say it was gone by '86, and that pic of him sitting on it is from '75. Between '86 and '93 a large quanity of rock on the left side and below the summit fell away, leaving the more rectangular looking block that is there now.
