Has anyone done the "Cougar Traverse" through the Pasayten wilderness as described by Mike Woodmansee in his book "Trekking Washington"? If so, I've got a few questions... Thanks Jeff

Is that the one where you hike over Cougar Mountain in the dark then start up Squak, fall in a ditch, get covered by leaves and end up reported missiing? Seems I remember a story like that.

I think the title of the thread is going to throw a lot of people off on this one. And since no one reads more than one reply back, you will eventually give up on this thread in disgust after correcting the 15th person that references Cougar mtn when "Cougar" is referenced in our neck of the woods. I believe Mike Woodmansee now lives in La Conner. If you don't get any feedback from others here on this mondo Pasayten trip you might take a shot at locating his phone # there. Mike is a good guy and would likely be happy to discuss this route with you.

Life is short so live it well.

I thought people in this thread might be interested to know that I completed the 242mi Cougar Traverse last week in 5 days, 17 hours, 52 minutes. Here's a link to the report: http://www.christofteuscher.com/aagaa/report-242mi-cougar-traverse-fkt Cheers, .: Christof

Holy necro thread! Thanks for the data. I long ago decided that I probably wasn't going to attempt this one, but you have confirmed my decision. Strong work!

Awesome trip report you must be in great shape. Congrats on the trip and sorry about the go pro.

I may not be the smartest, I may not be the strongest, but I don't want to be. I only want to be the best I can be.

Just so you know, Christof is a world-class endurance athlete with a long list of FKTs to his name. To do the extremely challenging Cougar Traverse would take most of us ultrarunners 2 to 3 times as long as he did, even with food drops. He did it unsupported. Stellar!
