Wolverines just dropped a few notches in the toughness/intelligence ratings.

From Jeff Lewis WDFW fisher specialist. https://crosscut.com/2018/02/fishers-are-back-washington-can-they-survive I asked if they got any "pings" from any of their released specimens from either the North Cascades or Mt Rainier. Most have tracking devices "Hi, Unfortunately, we have not done any flights in that vicinity, so your message was good news to us. Given the date and location of your detection, we think this was a fisher that we released in the North Cascades in the previous winter. We released 19 fishers about 7 miles east of Darrington, so its likely one them moved south and was checking out that county where your camera was. So, this is cool news and also makes us have to figure out new ways to cover all the ground where fishers are. Thanks again for sharing your pics! Best, Jeff"

Sorry I’m a little late to the game on this thread, but just wanted to comment on the video BPG shared on the previous page of the wolverine hunting. What an amazing video! After watching it, I feel more confident that we did see a wolverine following the mountain goat herd, which had three baby goats in it. The animal had a very distinctive galloping gait as it was crossing the glacier, similar to the one in the video and it was the same size and shape. My cell phone battery was low, so I chose not to photograph it because my zoom isn’t very good. Now I wish I had!

Its my opinion that you have more than enough wilderness experience to make a confident identification. Lucky you! I'm jealous

Thanks, BPG, it was a combination of sitting in one place for a long time and pure dumb luck! Keep up the good work, the game cam viewing of the fisher was pretty special too! up.gif

Got a wolverines on my trail cam a few years back. Knew there was at least one in the area after a buddy took one of the researchers in via snow machine. He was just lashing chicken carcass to the trees.. He got some cool pics. When putting out cams it's always good to remove any brush that could be affecteded by the wind.
