Started a new thread about this. The Mountaineers' conservation blog gives some information on how the proposed process is different. Basically, they want to reduce the public process a lot. For better and more details, see the USFS webpage on the subject. Some of these proposed changes may be good - I don't know. I haven't read up much on it, but will do so after this weekend. Public comment about the proposed changes accepted through Aug 12th.
