It says they struggle with over tourism too. If they brought this time to the Enchantments it might solve that and the FS budget problem too.

Taking a leak hiking in the forest is a bit different than letting it go in Times Square-- which is about how crowded Venice is.

Well, having been in Venice just 2 months ago, one backpacker routine that came in useful was navigating/route-finding! Easiest place to get lost ever! I brought a small compass that was surprisingly useful.

Oh my...what a rebel you are! pissing in public makes such a profound statement... confused.gif dizzy.gif I must have missed the sarcasm...or not?

These folks picked a fairly dumb and rude spot for setting up their stove. That's the heart of a super bustling pedestrian tourist Mecca. There are plenty of better choices across Venice for that where I'm sure they wouldn't have been hassled.

Yes, but I'm now wondering whether this was intentional-- perhaps they live streamed their coffee making and arrest in an attempt to build viewership for their instagram/facebook/YouTube presence. Or perhaps they were making instant coffee, which I believe is a gross misdemeanor in Italy.

In 1977, when I was 20 years old, I spent a week in Venice. After being politely rousted from cathedral and station, I found that the ideal sleeping location was a small amphitheater on San Giorgio island, served by passenger boat several times a day. I left my backpack at the train station in the daytime and just wandered around eating and drinking really good coffee all day until the last boat. One morning I woke up in the open air theater with a group of actors rehearsing. They didn't seem to mind my being there. Sometimes I feel like I lived my life just in the nick of time.

I agree with needing nav in Venice! After my Alta Via 2 trip in the Dolomites, i stayed in Venice for a night. I walked 11 miles the day I was there, and might never have found my way back to my hotel if not for running a GPS track. The streets and walkways are narrow & look similar. I was more tired after that walk than any day in the Dolomites! biggrin.gif

Remember when the people made tea on a jet and set it on fire, killing everyone on board? Could be worse, all I'm sayin...

Venice is like an older version of Disneyland....with lame water rides.
