Good point. Perhaps the actual permit is more specific that the group leader must go. If not, then perhaps the OP could still go on a technicality. Wouldn't that be poetic justice?

You need to work on your reading comprehension skills

Define permit holder. If different than group leader then why use different terms? It's a technicality but...

Here are the rules per the USFS website. It says you have to camp together (not hike or stay together at all times) and all members must carry a copy of the permit. It also says you can have an alternate group leader. Not mentioned on the USFS site but apparently you can't add an alternate after the permit is printed, and apparently the group leader printed it prematurely, hence the OP's dilemma. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/okawen/passes-permits/recreation/?cid=stelprdb5405903

As Tom pointed out, the wording is confusing and seems to potentially leave room for the OP to go on a technicality. There's also this:
Quote:
Every group member must carry a copy of the permit.
Wouldn't that make each member of the group technically a "Permit holder", thus further separating the term from "Group Leader"?

Looks like the recreation.gov site makes things a little clearer. https://www.recreation.gov/permits/233273 I note they say once a permit is printed, changes can only be made at the Wenatchee River Ranger Station front desk. So it seems the ranger station does have some discretion to allow changes. Not sure why they are unwilling to work with the OP as it seems to be a fairly innocuous request and legitimate situation. Maybe they have no discretion within 7 days.

Is Larry the tool still there? Haven’t hiked the Chants since we finally got a permit in June and Asgard was a death trap we and everyone else went up to Lake Stuart. Next weekend someone died falling through.

lol.gif Haven't heard that name in forever. He threatened to arrest me and a buddy when we aborted an attempt on NF of Stuart and exited via the Colchuck TH (we started from Ingalls Lake side). Unbeknownst to us the road/trail system on that side had been closed. We thought it was weird when we didn't see anybody on the trail, really weird when we got to the TH and there wasn't a single care there. A few minutes later Larry rolls up in his shiny black pickup truck and my buddy's wife right behind in their rig. He read us the riot act but ended up nobody was incarcerated. Back in the day when I visited the Cascade Climbers website frequently many posters were constantly bashing Larry. He hated climbers and seemed to think it was his job to harass them.

It's that time of year again. Permit applications for the 2023 season open tomorrow. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/okawen/passes-permits/recreation/?cid=fsbdev3_053607

It is very vital to OBTAIN a permit. AT ALL COST!! Use anger on the phone if need be!!! Absolutely vital to obtain a permit to The Enchantments otherwise you're looking at no other decent options that compete with The Enchantments. That are RELEVANT in conversation with The Enchantments!!!
