| Recently heard the forest service is banning parking on Eightmile road from Icicle road to the Stuart Lake parking area,effective September 3. Don't know when they plan on announcing it but they apparently made the decision months ago. Estimates are it will eliminate 80% of the cars heading to Colchuck. 1st come, first serve, and permit holders will have to compete with everyone else. |

| Well that's one way to cut back on the number one day thru hikers. I wonder if anyone is going to start offering a shuttle bus service. |

There is, kind of.
Or, as people are sick of hearing me say...stash a bike at the top! It's almost all downhill. Yes that means you have to hike in the less popular direction, but so what. Don't see what the problem with parking is though because the road is plenty wide. Oh well. Sounds like it's just a rumor at this point anyway. |

There's plenty of grade further along the road where it's blocked. Move the roadblock up a ways and bingo, more parking.

I suspect that the USFS is trying to figure out ways to reduce how many people enter the area without instituting a day hiking quota system. |

When it takes effect on Sept 3 I bet you'll see a line of Ubers at the Snow Lakes trailhead. Good opportunity there. I'd happily pay $10 for a lift. Had to beg someone last time when my planned ride was detained by an undercover agent disguised as a goat. |

They are probably also considering the parking situation for Eightmile.
I was up there on Saturday. There was a line of parked cars from the Stuart Lake TH parking lot back to the Eightmile parking lot, no parkable gaps.
Somehow I managed to drive past all this, up to an empty spot at the Stuart Lake TH. |

You had no idea how right you were when you said "it's creepy how many goats there were."
I had the same thought about Uber. I wonder how that'll go. They need access to the mother ship and it seems like most are Priuses, but there's an obvious opportunity here. |

| Seems like an easy opportunity for a side gig to offer rides from the Snow Lakes Trailhead. You don't even need to give Uber or Lyft a cut. |

Snow Lake TH can't handle that much overflow parking. It's usually about full even without getting a bunch of 8 Mile Rd. rejects trying to park there. How much roadside parking can Icicle Creek Rd. handle? Craggers and river rats probably already have most of that locked down.
Maybe we should just shut down the Icicle to all forms of outdoor recreation. That will solve the problem. |
