Hi All,
Heading to Spade/Venus Lakes in a couple days. Looking to save some weight and figured I'd ask about hammock camping spots around the lake...preferably closer to shore.
Are there good spots or should I stick with my tent?
Thanks!

There isnt anything that rings my bell close to shore. But Ive only been there three times. Maybe someone else can chime in here.

If you go to Google maps and search for 'spade lake washington', then switch to satellite view, you can get a pretty good sense of the tree cover in this area.

I've done that. Looks like there shoudl be a few spots but some of the tree coverage resembles dwarfed trees that may not be suitable for hanging a hammock.
looking for 1st hand experience...if anyone has hammock camped up there.

You should be fine. I would be shocked if you can't find a nice spot to hang a hammock at Spade. Zoom in to this image found on reddit looking down from Venus: https://i.redd.it/946m9q8sb6j11.jpg

thanks. I think I'm just going to go for it. What spot I find may not be right on the lake like I'd like, but I'm sure I'll be able to find something.

From the photo it looks like you will be fine. A sleeping pad and tarp (possibly used with the hammock) will save you if you can't find a good spot to hang.

We camped on that isthmus. Looking at the first pic here from camp it seems you could easily string a hammock up. Only problem if you hammock is you might not be able to claim the isthmus if a larger party drops by. Beautiful views up to Daniel from Spade. Far side may be better for views (not my pics).

Thinking back to my trip, there won’t be many right by the lake but there may be some back a bit from the lake.
By the lake
The tarn on the way in to Spade, these trees look big enough

Theres a reason they don't want camp sites on the lake

That lake used to house three hundred sheep every summer. Camp sites are the least of the issues there. Hell, there's a Piper Super Cub sitting on the bottom of the lake. LOL.

I’d recommend the tent. I was up there twice week and the bugs are still in full affect. A tent might give you some sanity if there’s dead wind.

I have found that most campsites are far to close to the water. This year at Robin lakes I saw someone with a tent set up so close to the water I think wins waves would be a serious threat of getting wet gear. I don't get why people feel the need to be right on the lakes the view is typically better from a little ways off, and then people can enjoy looking at the lake without staring at your camp, or in places with limited access to the water use the lake without being in your camp.
I also think you can probably find a suitable place for a hammock there, just have a backup plan in place, or be ready to move away from the lake if necessary to find camp.
I may not be the smartest, I may not be the strongest, but I don't want to be. I only want to be the best I can be.

Yes people should take into consideration how fragile and sensitive the area are along the lakes. They get a lot more traffic and camping there only results in preventing or delaying the recovery of these sensitive areas. I get it everyone wants to take a picture of their camp by the lake to show off but at the expense of the environment. Go find 2 trees away from the lake which there are plenty there and camp there. IMO
