Thinking about taking a jaunt up Silver Star near the end of the month and was wondering what peoples' opinions were on what route was best for this time of year, Silver Star Creek or Willow Creek-Burgundy Col?
Everybody seems to climb Silverstar via the glacier now. My buddy and I did the Willow creek route (per Beckey). We liked it. We even camped one night in a purdy little larch basin. I have a pic of the larches all golden, so it was late season, and there was water where we camped.
It was steep class 3 and one class 4 move near the top. Seems like a good way to go unless you are itching to wear crampons, which everybody is these days.
We liked it so much we decided to repeat the climb the year after. We were talking too much while hiking and forgot to take a left up toward the route, and we ended up by big Snagtooth instead. Then it started snowing, but that's another story.
