Scrambled up the Pleiades on Sunday. Thanks to Stefan and Matt’s beta on the goat ledge; it worked great. The formation:
The Route:
As per the beta, I used a rope to descend to the notch between the middle summit and the true summit, and followed the goat ledge around the peak. Having good beta on the true summit, I scrambled up a more direct gully than Matt and Dicey. It is a steep chossy affair that ends at the notch that they descended to prior to the true summit. The start is at an unusual local for a gully; a steep descending ridge. You can’t see the named summit from the start of the gully. The gully is a straight shot to the notch, then climb up and left to the true summit. Steep and loose, but manageable. The summit register was soaked and unusable, but readable.
Visited Dallas Kloke’s memorial plaque on the way up. For those interested, there is a movement to rename Skookum Peak in the Sisters Range after him. He has the FA on the peak, as well as a few routes in the area.
Twin lakes was mobbed on my return; 46 cars!

It's all downhill from here!

How is Twin lakes road? I heard it is very scary, but never been there. Can a RAV4 make it, or needs a truck?

That ledge is impressive. If you look back from the furthest summit, you can see that it's a fault that cuts entirely through the mountain, visible on both sides.

Great idea. I remember the sunny day we did the first ascent on Skookum (May 30 & 31, 1969). Dallas loved the Sisters range. David Dixon

David: PM me if interested renaming Skookum. We need to wait ten years after Dallas' death to petition the USGS, but have a lot of support (including Fred Beckey). You could provide a valuable impetus as well.

I should have mentioned to you that John Roper thought Hayden would be better than Skookum, since it is more prominent and visible from farther away (including the family home in Anacortes). Dallas was on the FA of both. Fred thought either peak would be good to rename per emails before he passed. I need to pick the ball back up and finish the application and letters of support...Thanks for the reminder!

Thanks to Mark DesVoigne for placing and maintaining the plaque. Coincidentally, I just spoke with him this morning about visiting High Pass again this fall. I'll see Mark tomorrow 8/14 and will share with him the effort to rename Skookum is still alive and well. Mark Nelson

In general I don't like coming across plaques in the mountains, but Dallas really deserves one. That looks like a spectacular route.
