Hiked into Dewey Lake via Chinook Pass and the first half of the Naches Loop trail late on Friday. We walked through the clouds down to Dewey and found most of the PCT side of the lake full of campers. So we continued around to the woodsier side of the lake and found a pretty little spot in the trees with a sandy beach and an amazing view of Rainier - when the clouds lifted:)
Saturday morning our buddies met up with us and the grown-up took a side-trip to American Lake. The PCT to American is a lovely and light tread. American Lake had maybe three tents calling it home, blue skies and hardly any skeeters. We didn't linger long hoping our nebulous had lifted back at Dewey.
Returned to camp with Rainier still hiding behind a veil of white. But, we had fun with the kids and woke up Sunday to a bold and brilliant view of the lovely lady that lead us all the way home.
We headed back up to the Loop trail Sunday morning and went left where Rainier lavished us with its beauty all along the way. We saw two bears along the way as well. It was all pretty amazing. Would totally recommend doing the loop from Chinook to Tipsoo. The tread up seems to be more slight and walking towards Rainier on the other side is astounding. Lots of people on the trail Sunday morning - such beauty draws a crowd.
