Looks like a great trip! It was neat to see Avalanche Lake from above!

up.gif Wow, that looks awesome! I see goats frequently but I've only seen bighorn sheep off in the distance. I didn't know they came down to the parking lot to lick antifreeze like the other critters do. That one big ram was posed absolutely perfectly for you. The tarns below the glacier look really cool. I like the chute w/ the hand cable.

Thanks for the pics, memories! It's been a good 25 years but I remember the striated rock, glacier and considerable side hilling.

I just viewed the traverse photos. Outstanding hike that was. Such beautiful terrain. I saw the note asking you if there were any. Nonetheless was there any concern for encountering bears? Did you all have bear spray? Thanks, ~z Edit: Looking back again at the photos, perhaps the country you all were hiking through was too high of an elevation for bear habitat. It is pretty desolate up there. I suppose being local that you have a good handle on their habits and whereabouts.

I think 2-3 of us had bear spray. We made plenty of noise as we walked (talking). We were not concerned in the open areas - only when we were in forested areas. As long as you don't surprise a bear, or get between a bear and its cubs, you should be OK.
