Corteo had been on my list for a few years, and I finally got around to climbing it last weekend. Liz & myself met Neil at Mazama & drove to the TH Saturday night. Our plan was an early start hoping to tie in Black Peak w/ Corteo. Of course we slept in a bit and didn't get started up the trail until 8:00. We made it to Heather Pass in a short bit thinking about the SW ridge route, but decided to continue up the trail toward Maple Pass.

Was surprised to find a faint climbers path leading toward Horsefly Pass and into the talus basin.

The route traverses the boulders to an obvious bench leading to the east ridge. Scramble the ridge on easy class 2/3 until it becomes much harder. From there traverse a couple hundred yards on a easy but slightly exposed ledge system to the east face.

The route is obvious at this point. Continue on some fun class 3 terrain to a notch near the summit.

From here it was a couple more hundred feet up to the top. What a freaking awesome view! Spent 90 minutes up there enjoying summit beers, pizza, and naps.

Looking back down at the SW ridge route I am very glad we did not go that way. Looks like a loose descent / ascent from the notch above Lewis glacier. We retraced our route down eventually reaching the crowds of the Heather/Maple loop.

Reached the cars at 6 and enjoyed some tachos down at The Old Schoolhouse. 10 miles w/ 4,000' gained. Another great day in the mountains!!!

Nice photos! Brings back memories of when I did the Maple Pass Loop with a friend several years ago.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Looks like I missed out on a good one. Maybe next year you can repeat it and get me up there.

I've wanted to climb that ever since walking past it to Black many years ago. Maybe someday. Thanks for the report. It looks like a fun scramble.

Jake R and I just did this today. Lots of time in the no fall zone on this peak!

Yeah. More serious than expected for sure. Ball bearing over slab, not my favorite!

Nice work Fletcher and Jake. Was looking at you from Crater, Trappers, and X this weekend.
