More good views. At first I couldn't figure out the first picture, but then realized the elk. was nose to lens with your game camera.

Passing rocks and trees like they were standing still

More great photos BPG!! up.gif up.gif How do you set up your camera to minimize false exposures due to the movement of the brush and trees due to wind? It seems to me that everywhere in the woods there's stuff blowing around almost constantly.

I believe they work similar to alarm motion detectors which are triggered by heat changes.

It's been alot of trial and error. It's windy all the time where I live. It's constant and it's been a great place to learn how, and where, to set up while always knowing the wind is the major concern A bush being moved by the wind @ 10 feet from the camera will create a false trigger. That same bush, at say, 40 feet, would not. In those recent bear images. You see that small sapling between the 2 trees? If my camera had been 10 to 15 feet closer to that, and it moved with the wind, I would've gotten a false trigger. For instance. Recently, I went out a retrieved a camera that had been out for about 10 days. Over 500 false triggers ( the elk images @ the top of this page ) A very promising location with lots of criss crossing game trails. There were some bushes ( see all those bushes & shrubs ) but I thought they were far enough from the camera and figured they wouldn't be a issue. I was wrong and that wasn't the first time that happened. I don't set up around really brushy areas anymore and it would be too much work ( and unethical ) to start removing vegetation. Although, I have snapped off a few branches. I've never had a false trigger at night. Those most recent bear images ( camera was out 2 weeks ) I didn't get any false triggers. Semi thick / thick forest with very little underbrush. I'm finding those are the best spots. But yes, wind is a issue and can be frustrating. I'm still learning and getting to know my cameras. It's been alot of fun So, to answer your question, I haven't totally figured it out yet

That does sound like a lot of trial and error. I think I will leave it to you and just enjoy your photos and stories. up.gif

I have a lot of unethical brush at my place that needs removing. You have an open invitation to stop by anytime. cool.gif

Tired of the bear images yet? They are, "as thick as fleas on a fat pup" around here in the Teanaway

Dang, I'm gonna have to be more careful out in the woods when I think no one's watching paranoid.gif I don't care what anyone says, bear cubs are way cuter than puppies.

Some nice video there. I assume the elk was hearing? something with the camera. Really cool with the bears. Interesting how different the bears move around compared to the elk. Thanks !

When I grow up I wanna play.

Camera is silent Human scent all over that camera. More often than not, the animals will come right up, nose to lens, and sniff the camera. That mother bear did. In that video, right near the end of it ( @ 58 seconds ) you can see part of her back in lower left corner. My camera wasn't mounted in the position I left it. The elk smells a human but doesn't see one. He's really nervous. His ears are "radar detecting" 360° listening for anything that could kill him.
