Last time I was up the Gold Creek trail I discovered that it basically ended where the Alaska Lake trail intersected. Beyond that point it was heavy brush. My guess is that Joe Lake is less visited now. We used as a base camp for climbs of Huckleberry and Chikamin Peaks. That was long before the PCT was re-routed to its present location.

So you're telling me that if you keep following the trail on the downhill side of the middle "lake" it'll take you up and over the saddle to the PCT?!
