Does anyone besides me want to go trekking in Mongolia?

I'd love to, if only for the music.

Definitely one of the places I most want to visit some day - so much wild lonely country!

Well, it won't be for much longer if western tourism takes hold. Things are such these days that once the word gets out on social media, the place will be over-run; a place that is ill-equipped to handle the crush of humanity and "modernity". Gwen, if you go could you go "incognito" and stifle your social media impulses? My guess would be no. hockeygrin.gif

In a lot of areas you’re likely to get beaned by a golf ball. Mongolia is pretty well established as the world’s premier extreme golfing destination.

Aaaauuuugh! vent.gif I'm reminded of a Tom Robbins quote (I may be paraphrasing a bit):

This is the most social I am with my media these days (though my reach was never far). I don't have to go incognito since I'm essentially invisible. Does that work for you? cool.gif

Dunno. I lean into pessimism and occasional extreme views. My experience is no westerner can go to a third world country and be "invisible" and some are anything but, as recent media reports have shown (like the two idiot "trekkers" with a drone camera in Pakistan). I guess I knee-jerked. Sorry. clown.gif

'Tis true, and in Mongolia. I would expect to be anything but invisible, but the issue of (extended) impact lies not in my visibility in Mongolia but rather my visibility, or lack thereof, as is the case, here. No hordes are going to follow in my footsteps.

Mongolia is on my short list of places to go. When I go I will likely arrange travel with a company called trip.me Having used them in Jordan, Cambodia, and Himalayan India I have only accolades to say about their service delivery to clients. Someone will meet you at the airport and after that everything will run as smoothly as weather allows. They operate out of Berlin. Here is a link to their Mongolia trips offered, but they will tailor a trip to your requests. https://www.trip.me/mongolia/tours

Near the top of my list as well. Ah, to see the famous horse races on the plateau!! And yes the singing!

I would love to trek through Mongolia and might do some in April as I have a flight into Beijing and am considering making my way into Mongolia.
