It was exactly the same way it was the first time I was there, only different.

That's a great trip, and a good time of year for it

I did it last year, was fine. A little more chewed up from horses/loose rock in places on trail, but mostly fine. Fewer camp areas than I would have imagined. But that was last year...

There's a camp at either the first or second drainage crossings after the initial switchbacks. Not a large one, but a good tent site and water. Makes a great 'get away from the car' spot if your timing is such that you want to put in 3ish miles or so before doing the rest the next day.

Hiked out it in late August. Great condition, May have stepped over one tree. None of the campsites are particularly spectacular though.

If you have the time, it’s worth heading upslope....like Deadhorse pass, Grace lks, or above Frosty pass.

I personally love all that area up there. Once past Grace Lakes, you seldom come across other people. It's just a great area to wander. And you don't need to follow trails if you have a bit of comfort with map skills.

Thx. Have done it many times and was really only interested if it was passable as it was my exit route today. I've gotten in the habit anymore of not assuming even old standard trails are usable. BTW, it's in perfect condition. Yep, Grace Lks are nice also. Did't have time for a visit this trip.
