We went to the upper and lower Helena mines on Wednesday. Both were flooded and there was a couple inches of rapidly melting, slick snow. Trail could definitely use a little TLC.
The road was way better than expected. I made it in my Honda Fit but it would have been nice to have higher clearance for the washout repair with a bunch of loose rocks. The brush is only encroaching in the last mile but you wont scratch unless you have a large vehicle. |

That repair was just part of what they did. Great job to just before the St. Louis mine trail. Will see if it holds through the winters weather ?
And I did the St. Louis mines and made it up to the Lower Bonanza Q. That was a pain, but found the easy way and used it coming down.

I was up there on Sunday, road in good shape except for a tight spot where a small mudslide came down.
One of your previous posts mentions an easy way to the Bonanza queen, could you elaborate? Friend and I took a guess that it was in the draw with the waterfall to the right of actual location. Didn't know where main workings were until back in reception when we could research it. Seems like route is full of devil's club. |

From the Creek look up and find the white stump, left of little gully.
Cross over, I used that tree up stream. The go up the tree's on the left, there is a nice boot path. When you pop out on the road bed you should see the yellow Rabid Bat sign on a bug stump. Go around it and fallow the path up to the Adit.
I haven't used Flicker in a long time and now I can't get in to my pics or load up some new ones of the trip.
Hope this helps. Go before the weather comes back.
