Went for a short trip yesterday afternoon in the Stampede Pass area. Fall colors are starting to really pop along the forest roads.
Tons of mushrooms and fungi along the trail. Found some purple mushrooms - not sure what kind those were.
Quiet day, only two other people at the lake. Nice easy stroll, back in time to watch the Huskies beat USC. Go dawgs!
The purple guy is violet cort. perhaps there are several species - I'm not hip on mush. rooms past the common name.
How did you get to the trail head? I did that one many years ago and took a series of forest roads; seemed to take forever, but there's a shorter way in, i think...? We ended up walking through a tremendous old forest for a few minutes before we hit a raw clearcut and the PCT. It was fall, like your trip, and the color was nice.
I like your photos!

Exit 62 > R on Lost Lake Rd > L on 5483 > L on 5484 (marked only by an orange arrow marker), then it's about a quarter mile up the road on the R. Not much of a sign left, but there is a pullout for a few cars opposite the TH.
Thanks for the mushroom ID! Apparently they are edible, but quite bland.
After you turn left into 5484, not long after the road "T"s. On the right is Hanks lake. On the left is Stirrup lakes "3". Once you turn left 50 yards the trail to Stirrups is on the left.
Nice pics. Road 5484 is in crappy shape. There are DEEP ruts on both sides of the road.
