What a beautiful hike and a well maintined trail!
The trailhead was cold, with the ice crystals on leaves that did not melt all day. This scared off all the extras and allowed us to hike alone, we saw only 4 other hikers all day!
The switchbacks are long and well graded, phoey on those who cut thier own steeper paths to the demise of the nature we were there to see, allowing for great views and a nice steady pace. This trail is certainly accessable through mid-November even when the weather is cold, and as it gets a bit colder at the base the crowds go away.
Chapel rock was warm in the sun, the area was clean (horah for leave no trace!).
A beautiful picnic and a wonderful view, I would do this hike again without a second thought, maybe start earlier in the day to allow for time to see Upper Lena Lake next time.
