We have this thread every year. People post their observations, everybody uses the info to plan trips. Washington Pass is mostly still green, turning a little yellow. If you wanted in from the hairpin there's one tree at peak, the rest are slightly yellow or wholly green. Harts Pass has some good color but very few are peak yet. However there's a lot of (up to 6") crusty snow on the ground except on south facing slopes. More coming tomorrow, Wednesday will be sunny, but the overnight lows will be in the teens F, there probably won't be much melt. The road is currently drivable to the end in a low clearance sedan. Cutthroat Lake is furthest along with many trees at peak color, the rest all yellow. It's gorgeous with the snowy backdrop. Blue Lake and Maple Pass have as many cars overflowing the TH parking as any popular, close in trail. I feel like peak is about a week out in this area. It's always the second weekend in October. The trees are right on time.

Cutthroat Pass is looking pretty colorful now, but up in the NE Pasayten still lots of green larches. Chelan-Sawtooths range from greenish yellow to deep orange in the higher elevations. Lots of snow!

Glad to hear it. Working in the public tax industry, I don't have a full 2-day weekend until weekend after Oct 15. Sounds like I might have a chance at seeing golden Lyalls this year.

Still seemed a little green to me at Cutthroat Pass (pic is from today, just beyond the pass)

I was up at the Crater Mountain Lookout site yesterday, and while some trees were at peak some were still a little green, so true peak a week away sounds right. This might be a year that requires a bit of snow travel though with the weather forecast this week.

Neek, for some reason they are changing sooner a little bit lower down. Here are some pics from last Tuesday between Cutthroat Lake and the pass.

As of Sunday (10/6) the Heather Pass / Lewis / Wing area was starting to show but was still just as much green as yellow. Should be close to peak by this coming weekend. The Rainy side of Maple looked about the same, maybe a teeny bit further along.

You think it will change that fast SF?

Easy Pass was looking a bit on the brown mustard mixed with green olive phase yesterday. I'd say a week to ten days for prime.

Went up to Hawkins and Esmeralda on Sunday. No larches grow there. Surprising since there are a bunch across the valley at Ingalls. Still there was some nice fall color and great views of surrounding peaks. The larches were well into their transition at Shellrock Pass a couple of weeke ago. I bet they are at their peak by now.

Was up at the Loup Loup area today. The larches are turning and not quite all yeller yet. Brrrrr, my ears got cold!

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities
