My eyes are dazzled after seeing the brilliant colors on the southwest side of Green Lake near the boat house. I look forward to colors every year, but this promises to be a very good year for brilliance. We go over Smith Brook road most years to look at the maples and cottonwoods backgrounded by the evergreens. I also really like the valley between Mazama and Winthrop for the great cottonwoods there. What are your favorite places to go to see fall color? cool.gif

Good thread. I'd be interested in greater Seattle area parks that people recommend. I just walked along the north side of Green Lake and those trees haven't turned yet--I'll have to wander by the SW side. Kubota Garden is always nice this time of year. I know the Elwha River Valley is usually nice; the road is washed out but you can walk or bike up it. I was there last week, walking a couple miles past the washout, and not much is turning yet.

I was up the Salmon La Sac Road along Cle Elum Lake and C.E. River last weekend. The Vine Maples across the way as I drove up river were blazing away with oranges and reds. Especially nice in the morning as the sun was directly on them. The FS road 4330 was nice as well, but it's a very rugged ride. ~z

What do you mean, fall color not larches? Maples?? This is against forum rules! Do you think you're on New England Scenic Drivers .net? I've reported every last one of you. 😉

The big leaf maples are gorgeous along the Perry Creek Falls Trail. Trail is very icy in places, but later in the afternoon the sun hits the trail, making for nice lighting.

Well report me then. I don’t care..., I like the color driving over Stevens pass, both sides. Maybe east side better. If it weren't the weekend I’d go there now. Ok, it’s dark now. Tomorrow then.

When I grow up I wanna play.

The North Bend area is nice. I drove around yesterday late afternoon. Drive up the North Fork or Middle Fork roads. I was thinking of heading out to Thorpe area. The canyon drive through there is stunning with the right lighting. So is the lower part of 970 outside of Cle Elum and Highway 97.

Since I have no expectations of forgiveness, I don't do it in the first place. That loop hole needs to be closed to everyone.

I’ve had my fill of larches already, but so far this year’s autumn colors have been less than impressive. Nothing compared to last year’s show at a much earlier date.
