I didn't encounter swarms, but some flies were still there. Five days on and I still have about four bite marks decorating my neck (and no, not by my significant other).

Exquisite colors! Looking at a trail map almost makes me want to visit the east coast this time of year--so many epic loop possibilities. The problem of course is that family travel is difficult when school is in session. Will have to live vicariously through your photos for the time being.
Absolutely beautiful photos. I hiked Algonquin Peak over 20 years ago before I moved west and one of the things I like most about the Adirondacks is the unbroken blanket of forest that covers the range without the rectangular clear cuts we see here that are prevalent in the Northwest. It also appears you hit the area at almost-peak foliage
I think I was off peak foliage by a week or so. There were pockets which were prime, but most of the high peaks region had just a few more days to go. It was still pretty spectacular! I even got to see some turning larches on my final day.
